Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller has tested positive for the coronavirus and will miss the Club World Cup final in Al Rayyan, Qatar, against Mexican side Tigres UANL.

"Thomas Muller, 31, has tested positive for coronavirus at the FIFA Club World Cup in Doha and was promptly isolated," the Bundesliga club said in a statement just hours before Thursday's final.

"Following his return to Munich, he will immediately go into quarantine. FC Bayern has agreed this with the relevant authorities."

The statement added that "the whole FC Bayern team was tested again on Thursday. There were no further positive cases."

Muller is the third Bayern player to contract the virus this year, following Leon Goretzka and Javi Martinez who missed the trip to Qatar for this reason.

He is also expected to miss at least their next Bundesliga match on Monday at Arminia Bielefeld.

Bayern are seeking their sixth title in a year, having won the Bundesliga, German Cup, Champions League, German and European Super Cups last year.
