Of Course Travis Kelce Had a Custom '87' Cape for His Pre-Super Bowl Haircut

Even when he’s getting his hair cut, Travis Kelce is repping his team. Point in case: the custom cape he wore during his pre-Super Bowl grooming session.

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end has gotten almost as much attention for his fade as for his record-breaking football skills and his blinged-out fashion; barbers say they've seen an increase in requests for the cut since Kelce ascended to the international stage thanks to his relationship with Taylor Swift. So, it’s no surprise that he spruced up his signature look for the big game on Feb. 11 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

On Sunday, barber Patrick Regan, who’s worked with Kelce for the past six years, gave fans a behind-the-scenes look at how he achieved Kelce's game-day fade cut (which by the way, has Swift's seal of approval, Regan shares).

In the pictures, the three-time Super Bowl champ, 34, wears a custom white cape by Illuzien that features the number “87” (Kelce’s jersey number) in the red-and-yellow font usually seen on his game jersey. (Swift, of course, was wearing her own suite of 87 accessories for the game as well.)

Though the pro and Kelce look calm, cool and collected, Regan revealed on his Instagram Story that he had only a short amount of time to get the job done.

“Under timing pressure, but we got it done let’s go,” he wrote.

Also included in Regan’s photo dump was a snapshot of Kelce in his pregame ‘fit  — a black sequin suit by Amiri featuring a suit jacket that Swift, 34, borrowed for her afterparty look worn to celebrateKelce and the Chiefs' win against the San Francisco 49ers.

Regan went viral for his razor-sharp grooming skills earlier this month.

"The funny thing is, it's such a simple haircut, you know. Barbers have been doing this haircut for centuries," Regan told Good Morning America, adding that other barbers have reached out to let him know that they’ve seen a boost in requests for Kelce’s look.

"I think it just goes to show how big of an icon that he is that a simple haircut can be named, like, the Travis Kelce haircut,” he added. "It's pretty cool."

Kelce was just as surprised that he’d become the face of the haircut overnight — and when it started to gain traction as "The Travis Cut" (despite it long having been popular within Black culture), he caught some strays from the coverage.

I didn't invent that — I just asked for it," Kelce said in a pre-Super Bowl interview with ESPN.

"It's absolutely ridiculous. And to do it on Feb. 1 and throw me to the wolves like that," Kelce said, referencing the start of Black History Month. "That was just messed up, man. I don't want anything to do with that one."
