Corrie's Samia Longchambon calls for past story to be revisited

Coronation Street's Samia Longchambon has suggested dialling up the drama by revisiting an old storyline for her character Maria Connor.

Speaking with Inside Soap, the actress revealed that she would like to have more screen time with her co-stars Jane Danson and Ben Price, who play Leanne Battersby and Nick Tilsley, respectively.

"I wish Maria had more scenes with Nick and Leanne, because Jane Danson is my best friend out of work," Longchambon said.

"But Maria and Leanne don't really interact much. And Maria and Nick were madly in love 20 years ago!" she added.

The soap star called for a storyline involving the three of them, though she clarified she doesn't necessarily intend for Maria, who's currently partnered with Gary Windass (Mikey North), to have an affair.

"Me, Jane and Ben always say it'd be nice to kind of explore those relationships again," she said.

"I'm not saying that she should have an affair or anything, but just that you never see Maria with either of those characters. And actually, there's a lot of history."

Longchambon has played Maria on the soap since 2000. She seems to be very fond of her character as she previously said she would be happy to continue playing Maria for a long time.

"I'm happy at Coronation Street and it would be nice to see what Maria is doing when she's in her 60s," she said back in 2021. "She'll probably be doing similar stuff to what she's doing now... making terrible decisions over men."

"She's got a good heart, but she doesn't make the best decisions," she added. "She goes all in and doesn't do things by halves and that includes men."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
