Coronation Street spoilers follow.
It seems like Peter and Carla Barlow may be headed for separation, as the couple continues to grow apart in new scenes.
Coronation Street will air a new confrontation for the pair when Peter realises his wife doesn't ask for his opinion in her work-related matters.
In upcoming episodes, Carla tells Beth Sutherland and Sean Tully she has paid their wages for last month and promises to pay them for this month as well — providing they return to work and complete the order.
However, their hesitant response frustrates Carla, whose only option is to try and entice them back to work with some extra cash.
Later in the week, Sean lets slip that the Underworld owner had to pay to get them back on the sewing machine.
Peter's upset to discover his wife has failed to share her work troubles with him, accusing her of not even caring about what he thinks. Carla is shocked at his outburst, but will the two of them be able to make up?
The ITV soap's latest development comes as Chris Gascoyne – who plays Peter – has been confirmed to leave the show.
Speaking to Digital Spy and other media recently, Coronation Street producer Iain MacLeod teased many outbursts will follow, with Carla realising Peter is not doing great.
"There are a few explosive Peter Barlow-style outbursts that start to bring to Carla's attention that he's really not okay," MacLeod said.
The couple is also set to be at the centre of a dramatic two-hander episode to air on Boxing Day.
"They reach this enormous fork in the road where they love each other, but perhaps their happiness is no longer reliant on each other," the producer said. "Maybe they start to wonder if they'd be happier in some other situation somewhere else, basically."
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
