You’ve probably heard of meal kits and meal delivery services. Maybe you’ve even tried one or a few. However, CookUnity is unlike any other service out there. All of its meals are created by top chefs, some of which are even award-winning or celebrity chefs.

Rather than cooking a meal with pre-selected ingredients, CookUnity sends you pre-cooked meals in chilled, recyclable containers. Simply choose your plan, choose your meals, heat, plate and enjoy. It’s super easy, and the meals are superb. These aren’t the microwave meals you find in the frozen section.

I recently checked out the menu in the NYC area, and there are easily over 100 options to choose from. Meals include red wine-braised short ribs, Cuban-style picadillo, slow-roasted cornish hen and jerked blackened chicken pasta. Everything sounds so tasty, and based on a quick look at the chefs listed, I believe it actually is. For example, you have people like the acclaimed Larry and Marc Forgione, Esther Choi and John DeLucie behind each recipe.

A CookUnity subscription allows you to order four, six, eight, 12 or 16 meals per week. Each week, you can choose from a menu or set your preferences and let the company choose for you. When you receive your meals, you can pop them right in the refrigerator. The food never arrives frozen, and the meals will have a “use by” date on the label — meals generally have a shelf-life of four to seven days.

If you ordered too many or your plans change during the week, you can freeze your meals before the “use by” date. When you’re ready to eat, let them completely thaw in the fridge, then heat them up.

It’s so easy and one of the most delicious meal delivery services out there. Plus, your money goes to real chefs, not just a random corporation. In fact, CookUnity likes to think of itself as a chef collective. Plus, the menu constantly changes, with new chefs regularly added to the roster.

I’ll admit, though, my biggest gripe with meal delivery kits and services is that I don’t want to add another subscription to my life, especially one I may not want to use all of the time. However, CookUnity makes it easy to skip, swap or cancel meals and deliveries at any point — a helpful feature for when you’re away.

To get started, simply enter your zip code to see a menu available in your area — you’ll probably sign up on the spot.
