Rory McIlroy and Caroline Wozniacki split: reports

The sporting world has been shocked by rumours that glamour couple Caroline Wozniacki and Rory McIlroy have parted ways, ending their two-year relationship.

Women’s tennis star Wozniacki is said to be “absolutely devastated” after McIlroy called it quits, reports The Belfast Telegraph.

For over two years the couple have appeared happy together in public, attending each other's tournaments and never shying away from the media. But recently, the loved up photos posted online have become few and far between.

However, reports say that too much exposure on social media may have been the final straw when a cheeky snap taken by Wozniacki of the Northern Irish young gun sleeping was shared on Twitter. In the post Wozniacki also poked fun at McIlroy.

Many weren't too impressed with the Dane's sense of humour.

"Am sure Rory will be thrilled with this one.." said one Twitter user.

"I suspect someone will not be too happy with you Caroline!" said another tweeter.

Even tennis champion Serena Williams gave her two cents.

"Omg Caro u are soooo mean!!!! Love it!!" she said.

That picture, to date the last post by Wozniacki featuring McIlroy, is believed to be what led to the couple splitting.

Since getting together both athletes have experienced a slide in form.

Wozniacki and McIlroy were once world number one players in tennis and golf respectively, but Wozniacki currently sits at no.8 while McIlroy, who once knocked off Tiger Woods from the top spot, is now ranked sixth in the world.

McIlroy in particular has had a tumultuous few years, signing to Nike in a record sponsorship deal and parting ways with two management companies before starting his own sports management group, Rory McIlroy Incorporated.
