Library grabs headlines with plan to re-classify Lance Armstrong biographies

Lance Armstrong books re-shelved to fiction section in Sydney library

A Sydney library says there are no immediate plans to re-categorise Lance Armstrong's biographies as fiction despite receiving worldwide praise for an apparent plan to do.

A sign at reception of Manly Library suggested Armstrong's biographies, once considered an inspirational story over illness and adversity, would soon be re-classified as works of fiction.

The sign read: 'All non-fiction Lance Armstrong titles, including 'Lance Armstrong: Images Of A Champion,' 'The Lance Armstrong Performance Program' and 'Lance Armstrong: World's Greatest Champion,' will soon be moved to the fiction section.'

It has since been revealed the sign was the work of a cheeky casual employee and does not mean a change in policy.

"This person just works a few hours on the weekend and he didn't have any authority to make a statement on behalf of the library," said Wendy Ford, Manly Library's community liaison librarian.

Ford said Armstrong's books would remain in the non-fiction section unless they receive instructions from Libraries Australia.

Ford was forced to clarify the library's position after the sign received worldwide praise on social media.

It has also featured on the websites of the UK's Daily Mail and USA Today.

Fairfax is reporting Manly Council have been inundated with calls about the sign.

Last week, Armstrong finally admitted to doping in all seven of his Tour de France wins between 1999 and 2005.

Given Armstrong's recent admission, one wonders what 'The Lance Armstrong Performance Program' actually involves.
