Potter to coach Wests Tigers: report

The Wests Tigers are reportedly set to announce Mick Potter as their new coach.

News Limited is reporting the appointment could be made as early as Thursday after Potter edged ahead of rival candidates Kevin Walters and Matt Parish.

The former Dragons and Bulldogs fullback has enjoyed a six-year coaching stint in the English Super League and was named coach of the year during his time with Bradford.

Tigers boss Stephen Humphreys said he had sought advice from senior Tigers players as part of their search for Tim Sheens’s replacement.

"I've had some discussion with senior players," he told The Daily Telegraph.

"Not so much around, you know, should we pick candidate X or Y? More around style and what is needed right now at our place."

Humphreys also confirmed Sheens could still be with the club next season as the stalemate over the former coach’s payout continues.

"Either he remains in a new role or it will be separation, it will be one of the two," Humphreys said.

"We've said we will give him all the time he needs to think about that."
