Cavaliers guard Collin Sexton out for season after undergoing meniscus surgery

Collin Sexton’s season is over.

The Cleveland Cavaliers guard underwent season-ending surgery on Wednesday to repair his torn meniscus, the team announced on Friday night.

It's unclear when he'll be able to start on-court work again.

Sexton banged knees with teammate Jarrett Allen in their win over the New York Knicks earlier this month and left that game early. An MRI the next day revealed the tear, and the team ruled him out indefinitely. Ricky Rubio has since replaced Sexton in the starting lineup.

Sexton had averaged a team-high 16 points and 3.3 assists in 11 games when he was injured. He averaged a career-high 24.3 points and 4.4 assists per game last season.

Sexton was selected by the Cavaliers with the No. 8 overall pick in 2018. The 22-year-old is in the final year of his initial four-year, $20 million deal after he and Cleveland failed to agree to a contract extension before the season started.

The Cavaliers are 9-8, though they have lost three straight. They’ll take on the Brooklyn Nets next on Monday.
