City sign Chile international Rojas in ALW

Melbourne City have moved quickly to replace sidelined striker Hannah Wilkinson, signing Chile international Maria Jose Rojas as an A-League Women injury replacement player.

New Zealand international Wilkinson, who scored 14 goals last season, will be unavailable until late December due to a quad injury.

Rojas joins City from Cypriot club Apollon Ladies where she scored six goals and assisted a further four in just six matches.

The winger has previously made 41 ALW appearances, scoring seven goals across stints with Sydney FC, Adelaide United and Canberra United.

That included netting for the Sky Blues in their qualifying final win over City last season.

"While it's disappointing to be missing Hannah for the start of the season, we're excited to bring Maria into the club," coach Rado Vidosic said.

"Maria will add experience and leadership to our attack, and she showed last season she's as dangerous as ever in front of goal."

Rojas will be looking to keep match-fit as Chile will take part in the Women's World Cup inter-confederation qualifying play-offs in February.

But she will also add valuable experience on the wing, especially with Holly McNamara (ACL) sidelined for the start of the season.
