Christian Louboutin teams up with Maison Margiela for couture show

Everyone is still talking about the Maison Margiela couture show, which was John Galliano's most theatrical catwalk extravaganza in years – and featured a whimsical collection which celebrated the female body and showed off inventive new dressmaking techniques. For the collection, the designer worked with luxury shoemaker Christian Louboutin on footwear which perfectly fused the codes of both houses.

"John and I met about 40 years ago when he first moved to Paris," Louboutin said. "Working with someone you love and respect was really the nice part of the collaboration. Moreover, Maison Margiela has such precise and strong codes that you can refer to, which are very well preserved."

The two designers worked together to create footwear that perfectly complemented the collection, and which brought together two of the most iconic motifs of each house; Louboutin's red sole on the Tabi.

The famous shoe was first launched in 1988 and has become one of the most recognisable – and not to mention, divisive – accessories in fashion. For this collection, the Tabi was adapted to reflect the exaggerated and body-modifying language of the collection. They were created as giant platforms with prothèse-augmented heel caps evoking the outline of hooves.

The design featured throughout the collection, including on the feet of actress Gwendoline Christie, who walked the catwalk, and on Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner, who attended the show wearing one-of-a-kind styles from the collaboration.
