China claim a fourth table tennis gold

China are one step closer to a clean sweep in the Olympic table tennis after winning gold in the men’s team event, beating Sweden 3-0.

Five-time Olympic gold medallist Ma Long and world number one Wang Chuqin won a tight opening doubles in the fifth game over Anton Kallberg and Kristian Karlsson 8-11 11-4 11-3 6-11 11-7.

World number three Fan Zhendong beat Truls Moregard 10-12 11-8 11-9 11-13 11-5 before Wang returned to clinch the gold with a victory over Kristian Karlsson 11-9 11-5 10-12 10-12 11-2.

Earlier, France’s 17-year-old Felix Lebrun helped the hosts to claim bronze medal. His brother Alexis Lebrun paired up with Simon Gauzy in the opening doubles match for a win, before Felix Lebrun put the hosts 2-0 up.

Shunsuke Togami and Tomokazu Harimoto put Japan level, with Felix Lebrun winning the final match to claim a second medal in Paris, to go with his bronze on the men’s singles.
