An investigation is under way after a two-year-old girl died two days after she was rushed to hospital following an incident at a rural childcare centre.
NT Police are now investigating the toddler’s death after she was taken in a critical condition by St John NT to the Royal Darwin Hospital on Thursday.
Paramedics were reportedly called to the childcare centre in Humpty Doo, approximately 40km north of Darwin, when the girl had a medical episode.
It’s understood she died in hospital on Saturday.
In a statement obtained by the NT News, Humpty Doo Community and Child Care Centre Inc reassured parents other children were not at risk.
“We can assure families there is no identifiable risk to any children in the service,” it said on Thursday.
“We want to reassure families that the safety of their children is always our highest priority.
“Our hearts are heavy and our thoughts are with the family and friends at this time.
“We are still limited in what can be shared and appreciate the stress and worry this may cause.”
