Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget will get an early screening in the UK two months before its wide release.
The eagerly-anticipated sequel, which comes 23 years after the original, is due to be released on Netflix on December 15, but the film will have its world premiere much sooner than that.
As announced by the British Film Institute (BFI), the film will be screened during the 67th London Film Festival, which runs from October 4 until October 15.
The Aardman stop-motion animation will have a gala premiere at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall on October 14, with simultaneous preview screenings being held elsewhere in the country.
Kristy Matheson, BFI London Film Festival director, said in a statement: “We are so excited to be sharing the magic and artistry of the Aardman studio and their favourite feathered friends with audiences this October with a film that’s brimming with fun and has such enormous heart.”
Director Sam Fell, who has previously helmed Flushed Away and ParaNorman, expressed delight at their film being screened at the festival, saying: “What an honour to world premiere our film on home turf at the London Film Festival this year.
“Dawn of the Nugget showcases the amazing talent and ingenuity of the crew at Aardman backed by the enduring passion of the team at Netflix. We’ve poured everything we’ve got into making this a treat for both die-hard fans and the new generation of families discovering Chicken Run for the first time.”
The logline for Dawn of the Nugget, which features a new-look cast, reads: “Having pulled off a death-defying escape from Tweedy’s farm, Ginger (Thandiwe Newton) has finally found her dream – a peaceful island sanctuary for the whole flock, far from the dangers of the human world.
“When she and Rocky (Zachary Levi) hatch a little girl called Molly (Bella Ramsey), Ginger’s happy ending seems complete. But back on the mainland, the whole of chicken-kind faces a new and terrible threat. For Ginger and her team, even if it means putting their own hard-won freedom at risk – this time, they’re breaking in.”
Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget will have its world premiere on October 14, before being released globally on Netflix on December 15.
