Chelsea spent more than £200m in the summer in an effort to upgrade their squad and, they hope, propel them into the top-four picture.

But this game highlighted familiar concerns for the Blues as they struggled to put away chances.

Nicolas Jackson scored 14 leagues goal last season - a very decent return by anyone's standards - but he was guilty of missing some big chances too, and that was the case once again against Palace.

He scored a tap in which took his early season tally to two in three games but then failed to convert a couple of late chances to seal the three points.

The 6-2 thrashing of Wolves shows that they have the firepower, so fans will be hoping this was just a blip, particularly after another summer of big spending.
