Celebrity swimmer Cody Simpson has failed to hit a high note on international debut.

Simpson, the pop star turned Australian swimmer, couldn't advance into the final of the men's 50m butterfly at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

He finished sixth in his semi-final in a time of 23.87 seconds - ranked 14th of the 16 semi-finalists.

Simpson refused to speak with media after his swim.

But his Games isn't over just yet, with his pet event - the 100m butterfly - to come on Saturday.

The 25-year-old was a last-gasp entrant in the 50m 'fly when Isaac Cooper was banished from a pre-Games training camp for abusing prescription medicine.
