Ablett misses another week with hamstring injury

Geelong opted against recalling Gary Ablett, meaning the star AFL veteran will miss at least a month because of his latest hamstring injury.

While Ablett must cool his heels again, new teammate Stewart Crameri and GWS recruit Lachie Keeffe will finally return to the AFL after lengthy spells out of the game.

Injury-plagued North Melbourne defender Sam Wright will also return for his first AFL match in 701 days.

While the Blues welcome back ruckman Matthew Kreuzer, they lost Charlie Curnow and Caleb Marchbank to ankle injuries for Saturday night's tough away match against Adelaide.

Gold Coast made five changes for Saturday's Ballarat game against the Western Bulldogs, notably dropping Michael Barlow and leaving Aaron Hall out for another week.

Ablett, who turns 34 on May 14, suffered a hamstring injury in the pre-season and another in Geelong's round-three loss to West Coast.

The Cats made three changes for the Friday night home clash against the Giants, giving Crameri his first senior game at the club.

Scott Selwood and Zac Smith are the other recalls, while Rhys Stanley and James Parsons were dropped.

George Horlin-Smith is out with concussion.

GWS lost Jeremy Cameron (toe) and Brett Deledio (hamstring soreness).

They named Keeffe and former Carlton utility Dylan Buckley for their Giants debuts.

Crameri has only played two senior games since 2015 because of last year's hip problems and his 2016 Essendon anti-doping suspension.

Keeffe served an anti-doping suspension at Collingwood and has not played a senior game since 2014.

The Suns lost co-captains Tom Lynch (knee) and Steven May (finger), as well as Jesse Lonergan (knee) and Brayden Fiorini (leg).

Barlow's AFL return only lasted a week and he was the one unforced omission.

Hall stays out of the team for the third week, but Charlie Ballard and Brayden Crossley were named for their senior debuts and Callum Ah Chee, Michael Rischitelli and Brad Scheer return.

The Bulldogs lost captain Easton Wood (hamstring) and Lewis Young will take his place.

Ruckman Paddy Ryder's return is a major boost for the Power ahead of Saturday's away game against West Coast.

Jasper Pittard is also back for the Power, who lost Chad Wingard (hamstring) and left out Tom Clurey.

Lewis Jetta (calf) and Dom Sheed (foot) are out for the Eagles and Mark Hutchings and Jackson Nelson will take their places.

Shaun Higgins and Mason Wood join Wright as North's inclusions for the Saturday night SCG clash with the Swans.

Majak Daw (foot), Jarrad Waite (managed) and Luke Davies-Uniacke are the omissions.

Sydney dropped Dan Robinson for Dean Towers.

The Blues also dropped Jack Silvagni again.

Jarrod Garlett and Nick Graham join Kreuzer as their inclusions.

Eddie Betts, Jake Kelly and Darcy Fogarty are back for Adelaide.

Riley Knight (managed) and Myles Poholke join captain Taylor Walker (hamstring) on the sidelines.

Essendon dropped Jackson Merrett and Matt Guelfi and Matt Leuenberger is suspended for Saturday's MCG match against Hawthorn.

They brought back Conor McKenna, Tom Bellchambers and David Myers.

James Sicily and Liam Shiels are handy recalls for the Hawks, who left out David Mirra and James Cousins.
