TikToker and pet owner Erin has a few cats, but none of them are as eye-catching as Ashfur. The cat’s fur is almost solidly black except for half his face. As though it were split precisely down the middle, half his face is black, and the other is white and gray.
See this bedroom turn into a vibrant oasis after an incredible one-day renovation:
It’s no surprise Ashfur’s unique appearance has him dubbed the “Phantom of the Opera,” after the mask-donning character from the Broadway musical.
The video racked up 2.1 million views on TikTok. People felt the comparison was on-point.
“In sleep, he meowed to me. In dreams, he purred,” someone joked, referencing song lyrics from the musical.
“Phantom of the Opurrrrra,” another said.
“This cat needs a Tony like right now!” a person wrote.
“Or, you can call him Harvey Dent,” someone said, referring to the supervillain Two-Face from DC Comics.
“I have NEVER seen a cat like that. That is such a cool, cute, majestic masterpiece right there,” a user replied.
According to National Geographic, cats with split fur tend to be feline chimeras. The distinct fur could signify that the cat has an extra X chromosome.
“A feline chimera is a cat whose cells contain two types of DNA, caused when two embryos fuse together,” National Geographic stated.
