Cash-strapped AFC Leopards facing Caf uncertainty

A number of KPL clubs are struggling to take care of their wage bills after the league lost its title sponsor early in January

AFC Leopards may have as well played their last match in Caf Confederation Cup this season.

Ingwe battled to a 1-1 draw against Fosa Juniors of Madagscar in the first leg match played at Bukhungu Stadium last Sunday. However, it has now emerged that the club is contemplating pulling out of the competition owing to lack of finances.

A source within the club has revealed to Goal that they are yet to raise the Sh6million required to make the trip to Madagascar for the return leg.

“We were expecting the government to come to our aid but we have received nothing as at now. We are still walking from office to office in the Ministry to see if they will aid us out. For now, the club cannot afford to sponsor the trip.”

The Kenyan government had committed to help sponsor the two clubs taking part in continental assignments – Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards – following the withdrawal of SportPesa as shirt sponsors.
