'Can you do that?': Bizarre ploy in Sheffield Shield final baffles

NSW have caused confusion in the Sheffield Shield final with a bizarre tactic in the field.

Moises Henriques was fielding on his knees at silly point at one stage on Saturday during Steve O’Keefe’s bowling.

Henriques was so close to Victorian batsman Travis Dean that Darren Lehmann was concerned in commentary.

“Now if I was Travis Dean I’d like to know, can you do that? Are you allowed to do that?” the former Australia coach asked.

“It’s dangerous isn’t it?”

Ian Healy added: “How vulnerable is he? [He] can’t move, he’s got to really dip his helmet down if it looks like something coming at him.”

“Moises must be pretty confident he keeps it outside leg.”

Victorian batsman Seb Gotch told Fox Cricket the tactic was ‘interesting’.

“That’s probably just them to get the batsman to play a different shot and probably get out of their comfort spot a bit,” he said.

Rain wreaks havoc

Rain has plagued day three at Junction Oval, with intermittent showers meaning the players have been on and off the field.

At the start of day three, the Vics had an overall lead of 216 runs after Peter Siddle and James Pattinson routed the visitors for 121 on day two.

Victoria, chasing their fourth Shield title in five seasons, has 1.88 first-innings bonus points to NSW’s 0.9.

That will decide the result if the match ends in a draw and at least 270 overs are played.
