Bucks will reportedly celebrate championship at White House on Nov. 8

The Milwaukee Bucks are planning to resurrect a sports tradition. The team will reportedly celebrate its championship by visiting the White House on Nov. 8, according to ESPN.

It's been years since an NBA team has made the trip. Three of the previous four NBA champions, the Golden State Warriors — who won twice — and Toronto Raptors, did not visit the White House when Donald Trump was in office.

Trump feuded with Stephen Curry after the Warriors decided not to celebrate at the White House. Their exchange led to LeBron James calling Trump a "bum."

The Los Angeles Lakers did not visit the White House after winning the championship in 2020, but that was due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Shortly after the team won, Joe Biden beat Trump in the presidential election. James was willing to attend the White House when Biden took office, but the pandemic scuttled those plans.

If the Bucks go to the White House, it would mark the first time since 2016 an NBA team has celebrated its title with the president.

Other professional teams visited Donald Trump in office

NBA teams may have taken a break from visiting the White House, but that wasn't the case in other sports. The Houston Astros, Boston Red Sox and Washington Nationals all made the trip to visit Trump after winning their championships. But players on each of those teams declined going to the White House due to Trump's views. The Los Angeles Dodgers visited the White House, but Biden was in office at the time of the visit.

The New England Patriots attended the White House after their 2017 win, but did not make the trip after winning in 2019. The Philadelphia Eagles were set to attend after winning a championship in 2018, but Trump canceled the visit due to player protests.

WNBA teams took the same approach as the NBA. Teams that won titles did not visit the White House while Trump was in office. The Seattle Storm returned to the White House to celebrate their 2020 title after Biden was in office.
