It's been reported that King Charles and Queen Camilla are set to make some major changes to their staff - not just across Buckingham Palace, but also throughout other royal households, like Windsor Castle, Sandringham and Balmoral.

The news comes from The Mail on Sunday, where it was revealed that the monarchs aren't fans of too many people doing the same (or similar jobs). A source told the outlet: "There is a real feeling that the staffing at all the palaces is too heavy. There are far too many assistants to assistants."

Instead, the source said that "the King and Queen would prefer to pay people proper wages from top to bottom but have less people."

"For instance, there are chefs for them and chefs for the staff. Why, they ask, can't there be one lot of kitchen staff for everyone?" they added.

Such a shake-up would apparently mean cutting up to 20% of jobs, and it's thought that Camilla, who "cannot abide too many people doing the same jobs" (we're talking senior housekeeper, executive housekeepers, juniors, etc.) will have a key role in initiating these changes.

Elsewhere - while there have been rumours for a while (even before Charles became King) that he wanted a "slimmed-down monarchy" - a further royal source has since claimed that the changes have nothing to do with cuts.

Speaking to The Evening Standard, they said: "It is about getting the best value for money from those on the payroll. Sometimes less is more."
