Brest thrash Salzburg to keep 100% European record
French side Brest continued their perfect start to the Champions League with a fantastic win at Red Bull Salzburg.
The Champions League newcomers thrashed their opponents in a clinical away performance, opening the scoring in the 24th minute through Abdallah Sima's composed strike on the break.
After soaking up plenty of Salzburg pressure, Brest doubled their lead with just their second shot on target in the 66th minute when Mahdi Camara latched on to a loose ball and fired into the far corner.
Four minutes later Sima, who is on a season-long loan at Brest from Brighton and also had a spell at Rangers, added his side's third, poking in a rebound after Salzburg keeper Janis Blaswich unconvincingly kept out Hugo Magnetti's effort.
Seconds after coming on, substitute Mathias Pereira Lage rounded off the scoring by curling a strike into the bottom corner with 15 minutes remaining.
Brest, who were playing at amateur level just over 20 years ago and have never won a major domestic trophy, finished third in Ligue 1 last season to qualify for Europe for the first time but sit 13th after six games this term.
They beat Sturm Graz 2-1 in their first ever Champions League match in September.
Salzburg remain winless in the Champions League league phase after losing 3-0 to Sparta Prague in their opener.
The Austrian side did have a goal ruled out at 0-0 after English referee Anthony Taylor consulted his pitchside monitor for a video assistant referee (VAR) check.
Brest defender Julien le Cardinal nodded a header from a corner towards his own net before Salzburg's Samson Baidoo flicked the ball in, but team-mate Lucas Gourna-Douath was obstructing Brest goalkeeper Marco Bizot's view while in an offside position.
