BREAKING: Harambee Stars technical bench fired

The U-20 Africa championship will be hosted by Niger in 2019

Stanley Okumbi and the entire Harambee Stars technical bench have been fired.

Football Kenya Federation reached the decision to relieve Okumbi, assistant coach, Frank Ouna and goalkeeping coach Hagai Azande of their responsibilities following Stars' 3-2 lose to the Central African Republic on Tuesday.

Okumbi, who was working on interim basis, has since been redeployed to handle the junior U-20 team.

FKF Media Officer, Barry Otieno said that Okumbi has not been fired since he was in charge in an acting capacity.

“Okumbi was serving on an interim basis since by the time we had secured Comoros and Central African Republic friendlies, Paul Put was the coach.

“He was called in to take the team through the ywo matches. He has since been redeployed as the head coach of the U-20,” confirmed Otieno to Goal.

Harambee Stars conceded a massive five goals in the two friendlies staged during the Fifa international week.

Kenya was first held to a 2-2 draw by lowly ranked Comoros before succumbing to a 3-2 defeat in the hands of CAR, a team ranked 15 places below them.

Belgian tactician Ruud Krol is set to be unveiled as the new Harambee Stars coach in May.
