Ireland pair secure bronze medals at Paralympics

Orla Comerford and Róisín Ní Riaín won bronze medals for Ireland at the Paralympics in Paris on Tuesday night.

Comerford clocked a time of 11.94 in finishing third in the final of the T13 women’s 100m.

Ní Riaín followed her silver in the women's S13 100m backstroke by earning bronze in the SM13 200m individual medley final.

Dearbhaile Brady missed out on a medal after coming fifth in the final of the S6 women’s 50m butterfly in Paris on Tuesday.

The Feeney teenager, who is making her Paralympics debut, was just 0.16 seconds short of a bronze while Ireland team-mate Nicole Turner was sixth.

Barry McClements finished eight in the final of the S9 men’s 100m backstroke - the 22-year-old from Newtownards came fourth in his heat earlier on Tuesday to make the final.

Claire Taggart was part of the Great Britain team which advanced to the BC1/2 Boccia mixed team quarter-finals after a 5-4 win over Portugal in their second pool match.

Great Britain, who lost 13-1 in their opener, will now face Indonesia on Wednesday morning for a place in the semi-finals.

"We're delighted to have made it into the quarters after the disappointment of this morning. To fight back the way we did, I'd so proud of each and every one of us," said Taggart.
