An urgent police investigation is underway after an eight-year-old boy was allegedly pricked by needle syringe hidden in toilet tissue inside a public toilet block on the NSW mid-north coast.

Police said the boy was using a public restroom on Koala St in Port Macquarie just before midday on Sunday when he received a “needlestick” injury to his hand while using the toilet.

Police were told boy was pricked by the needle which was still attached to a syringe and rolled into the toilet tissue roll, before he was rushed to Port Macquarie Hospital for treatment.

Police from the Mid North Coast Police District have since been notified and have commenced an investigation into the incident.
