Maxim Dadashev has been rushed to hospital for brain surgery after his TKO loss to Subriel Matias in Maryland.

The Russian boxer underwent surgery at the University of Maryland's Prince George Hospital Centre in an attempt to reduce swelling on his brain.

Matias pounded Dadashev throughout the 11th round of the fight, and the Russian had difficulty making it back to his corner.

Before the 12th round began, Dadashev’s head trainer Buddy McGirt warned that he was going to stop the fight because of the punishment doled out.

Dadashev had a blank stare on his face and didn’t utter a word.

McGirt then took matters into his own hands and told the referee he wouldn’t be continuing.

“God forbid … one punch as you know can change a whole guy’s life and I wasn’t going to let that happen — so, I’d rather have them be mad at me for a day or two then to be mad at me for the rest of their life,” McGirt said.

Dadashev collapses after fight

Dadashev had troubles exiting the ring and needed assistance walking down the steps.

He was still in bad shape and appeared to collapse to the floor before being put onto a stretcher and wheeled to an ambulance.

On the broadcast, ESPN reported that Dadashev was severely dehydrated and suffered a severe concussion that left him vomitting violently.

He then lost consciousness in the ambulance on his way to hospital.

Doctors were reportedly trying to contact Dadashev's wife, who lives in Russia, to get a list of allergies before placing him into surgery.

The boxing world took to social media with prayers for the previously undefeated fighter.
