Bowler high-fives batsman after brutal 32-run over

Darren Bravo has smacked West Indies teammate Kieron Pollard for a 32-run over in the Caribbean Premier League – and the bowler congratulated him for it.

Bravo’s epic 94 runs off 36 balls led the Trinbago Knight Riders home against David Warner’s St Lucia Stars in a thrilling chase.

Set 213 to win, Trinbago didn’t get a real handle on the match until Brendon McCullum and Bravo arrived at the crease.

McCullum made 68 runs before falling in the 19th over but they were in the box seat by then after Bravo’s stunning effort in the 16th over.

The 29-year-old opened it with four consecutive maximums – reaching his fifty with the third – and even after the hiccup of two runs he didn’t back down on the last as he sent another one well over the rope.

Bravo tallied 10 sixes and remained unbeaten at the end after Denesh Ramdin got in on the fun with a six on the penultimate ball of the match despite requiring just one run for the win.

Pollard had hit seven sixes of his own as he recorded 65 runs off just 23 balls in the Stars’ innings, and he showed good sportsmanship walking over to high-five Bravo.

He was perhaps a bit harsh on himself taking responsibility, however.

“When we got 212, you would think that’s enough to defend, but TKR showed their class,” Pollard said after the match.

“I stand there and take the responsibility. I backed myself with the ball, but sometimes you just have to sit back and appreciate the batsmen.”

Bravo said he and McCullum took advantage of a breeze, attempting to keep themselves at opposite ends for familiarity.

“He (McCullum) knew his strengths, I knew mine,” he said.

“There was a strong wind blowing across, so he took one end and I took the other.”

Australia’s banned cricketer Warner had teamed up with monster batsman Rahkeem Cornwall for a big partnership earlier in the match.

Warner hit 72 runs off 55 balls – his first big innings of the tournament – and the 140kg Cornwall added 53 off just 29.
