U.S. women’s eight celebrates gold medal by throwing coxswain into the water

The U.S. women's eight rowing team won its second straight gold medal on Thursday. Coxswain Mary Whipple led the women to the win by yelling, cajoling, sometimes even cussing at them to get them across the finish line first. Now that they have the gold, how does this group of intelligent, accomplished women retaliate? By keeping up with tradition and throwing her in the water, of course.

Whipple is 5-foot-3 and weighs around 100 pounds. She didn't stand much of a chance against the eight rowers, whose height starts at 5-foot-9.

Wow, they made her catch air. If coxswain tossing was an Olympic sport, they would likely win that, too.

Splash! Don't worry, Whipple came back up and celebrated the win with her teammates.
