Team USA’s Kevin Durant, Deron Williams, James Harden show off ‘Segway flow’ in Barcelona

Following a comfortable 22-point win over Spain on Tuesday in Team USA's final exhibition tune-up for the 2012 Summer Olympics, the members of the U.S. men's national basketball team found themselves with some time to kill before traveling to London to participate in Friday's Opening Ceremony. Faced with the question of how to fill those idle hours, Kevin Durant, Deron Williams and James Harden made the only logical choice — to take a Segway tour of Barcelona, photograph the whole thing and share the experience through the power of social media.

Williams, of the NBA's Brooklyn Nets, kicked things off by showing Oklahoma City Thunder teammates Durant and Harden getting acclimated to the controls of the world's foremost green personal transportation device. Before long, the Team USA trio — joined by Durant's friend Randy Williams and a gentleman KD referred to as "Nike Chuck" — were off, showing off what D-Will called their "Segway flow" at multiple scenic stops along Barcelona's beautiful waterfront. We're sure it was a lovely way to take in one of Europe's greatest cities, and while it might be nice to have a cup-holder on the handlebars — got to stay hydrated, after all, and avoid cramping when you open pool play on Sunday — it's probably best there isn't. After all, we learned from history's most notable Segway operator that you don't want to chance spilling a drink on your $6,300 suit. Or, as it were, T-shirt and shorts. (Come on.)

The tour also seems to give Team USA a critical advantage over France, which will be the Americans' first opponent in Group A on Sunday. After all, the U.S. now has three confirmed Segway users on the roster, while Les Bleus only have one — Boris Diaw. That edge could be important in the second half of Sunday morning's opening tilt.

If there's one sad note, though, it's that NBA Segway pioneer JaVale McGee couldn't take part; the Denver Nuggets big man was cut from Team USA consideration before the 2010 FIBA World Championship in Turkey and didn't get a look for the London Olympiad. His spirit, however, is clearly still with the U.S. squad, which is a ... well, frankly, maybe a frightening proposition.
