'Blatantly illegal': Cristiano Ronaldo threatens legal action over 'rape' allegations

Cristiano Ronaldo is gearing up to sue a German publication for releasing accusations of an alleged ‘rape’ from 2009.

The Juventus superstar has slammed the Der Spiegel magazine for publishing details provided by American woman Kathryn Mayorga, labelling them as “blatantly illegal”.

Mayorga went public with the information for the first time on Saturday, but her claims have been passionately denied by Ronaldo – who insists the sex was consensual.

Ronaldo reportedly paid her more than $A500,000 ($US375,000) nine years ago not to discuss the allegations, which she has now challenged with the help of lawyer Leslie Mark Stovall.

Mayorga claims Ronaldo raped her anally at the Palms Place Hotel in Las Vegas, and the 34-year-old is now attempting to void her non-disclosure agreement settlement.

According to Reuters, Ronaldo’s lawyer Christian Schertz has released a statement regarding the report as “an inadmissible reporting of suspicions in the area of privacy”.

There is also a massive risk with Mayorga now coming out against Ronaldo, as the non-disclosure agreement reportedly contains clauses obliging her to pay back the $500,000 from the settlement as well as any actual damages caused to Ronaldo.

His lawyer’s have threatened legal action and advised they would be seeking compensation from Der Spiegel for “moral damages in an amount corresponding to the gravity of the infringement”.

Furthermore, they have slammed the report as “probably one of the most serious violations of personal rights in recent years”.

Mayorga told the magazine she has since faced emotional trauma from the incident, which she ha labelled as a “sexual assault”.

“I’ve had like these serious breakdowns,” she told Der Spiegel magazine.

“And again, blaming of the rape. And I blame him, and I blame myself for signing that thing.”
