Bizarre moment FIFA official pockets World Cup medal goes viral

A number of eagle-eyed football fans think they’ve spotted the moment a FIFA official stole a World Cup winner’s medal for Vladimir Putin.

The bizarre moment has gone viral in the aftermath of Monday morning’s pulsating final – but is all as it seems?

As you can see above, the lady was standing on the podium as the victorious French team were being presented with their medals.

Standing next to Russian President Putin and FIFA boss Gianni Infantino, she can be seen putting one of the winner’s medals in her jacket pocket.

A number of fans spotted her actions and immediately cried foul, with a number of conspiracy theories being put forward.

However according to The Metro, her actions were completely innocent.

The official had spotted that all the French players had received their medals and had one left over, putting it in her pocket for safekeeping.

Spare medals are reportedly allocated for members of staff or players who aren’t part of the 23-man squad.

Either way, Putin reportedly has form in the area, with New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft once claiming the Russian President stole his Super Bowl XXXIX ring.

“I took out the ring and showed it to [Putin], and he put it on and he goes, ‘I can kill someone with this ring’,” Kraft told the New York Post.

“I put my hand out and he put it in his pocket, and three KGB guys got around him and he walked out.”
