Bert plays it safe with Socceroos team

Bert van Marwijk will cull his squad from 27 to 23 after the friendly with Czech Republic

Andrew Nabbout will lead the line but Bert van Marwijk has named an otherwise safe Socceroos XI to play Czech Republic on Friday.

Possible debutants Daniel Arzani and Fran Karacic will begin on the bench, while the national team boss has opted for a midfield three of Aaron Mooy, Massimo Luongo and Tom Rogic.

In just his third Socceroos appearance, Nabbout has been given another chance to prove his striking credentials, with Tomi Juric recovering from a knee issue.

The Socceroos are on a rotten run abroad, without a win outside Australian soil since September 2016.

Australia have two chances to erase that record before arriving in Kazan for their tournament opener with France on June 16; this match and a June 9 date with Hungary in Budapest.

The two tune-ups against opposition not heading to the 2018 tournament represent a good chance for confidence boosts.

Australia lost 4-1 to Norway and drew 0-0 with Colombia in their only matches since Ange Postecoglou's resignation and van Marwijk's appointment.

SOCCEROOS TEAM (4-2-3-1): Mat Ryan; Josh Risdon, Mark Milligan, Trent Sainsbury, Aziz Behich; Aaron Mooy, Massimo Luongo; Mat Leckie, Tom Rogic, Robbie Kruse; Andrew Nabbout.
