Benni McCarthy signed for Cape Town City last week

The retired striker's first competitive match in charge of the Citizens will be against the Rise and Shine

Goal can reveal that former Bafana Bafana international Benni McCarthy will be taking over from previous coach, Eric Tinkler who left for SuperSport United last week.

With McCarthy, Muhsin Ertugral and Ruud Krol linked to the position, Goal has it on good authority that McCarthy has already signed for City.

“Benni has signed with the club, he did so last week already and he will be announced soon,” a Goal source confirmed.

“It is a long-term deal that was signed last week already.”

The 39-year-old will be the head coach of his first club since completing his coaching badges last year.

McCarthy's previous coaching experience was when he was the assistant at Belgian outfit Sint-Truiden.
