Ben Simmons dunk overshadows Furphy's long bombs

Australian teenager Johnny Furphy scored a career-high 12 points for Indiana, but it was Ben Simmons who provided the highlight of the match as the Brooklyn Nets held on for a 99-90 win.

Furphy, playing just his 13th NBA match, nailed four-of-eight from long range on the way to 12 points, seven rebounds and one block in 25 minutes of court time on Wednesday night (Thursday AEDT).

The 19-year-old nailed three triples in the third quarter alone as the Pacers trimmed a 16-point deficit to just five points by the final change.

Scores were level with eight minutes remaining in the match, but a stunning alley-oop from Simmons helped turn the momentum back Brooklyn's way.

The Nets went on a match-winning 14-2 run on the back of Simmons' morale-boosting play, with the Australian finishing with seven points, seven rebounds, nine assists and two steals in a strong display.

Brooklyn were plus 20 when Simmons was on the court, showcasing the influence he had on the match.

"The guys did an incredible job of playing defence and pushing the ball and getting to the rim," Simmons told the Yes Network.

"I see the floor, I try to get my teammates involved and make the right play."

Tyrese Haliburton scored a team-high 17 points for the Pacers, who have now lost their past eight games on the road to slip to 9-14 for the season.

Cameron Johnson (26 points) led the way for Brooklyn, who snapped a three-game losing run to improve their record to 10-13.

Dyson Daniels continued his strong form with nine points, six assists and three steals to help lead the Atlanta Hawks to a 119-104 win over the Milwaukee Bucks.

Daniels fouled out with just under three minutes remaining, but Atlanta had already sewn up their fifth straight victory by that point.

Jalen Johnson (23 points, 13 rebounds) played a key role for Atlanta, while Giannis Antetokounmpo (31 points, 11 rebounds) and Damian Lillard (25 points) battled hard for the Bucks, who had their seven-match winning streak snapped.

In other action, LeBron James scored 29 points to go with eight assists and five rebounds as his LA Lakers crashed to a humbling 134-93 loss to the Miami Heat.

Tyler Herro led the way for the Heat with 31 points on 9-of-16 shooting from the perimeter.

The Heat amassed 42 assists - one more than the club's previous record -  while their 24 three-pointers also tied the franchise's record.

Franz Wagner scored 35 points to lead the Orlando Magic to a 106-102 win over the Philadelphia 76ers.

Jared McCain led the way for Philadelphia with 24 points.

The Boston Celtics beat Detroit 130-120 on the back of star displays from Jaylen Brown (28 points, nine assists) and Kristaps Porzingis (26 points, nine rebounds).
