Belinda Bencic burns Roger Federer in hilarious victory speech

It wasn’t just Alexander Zverev roasting Roger Federer after the Hopman Cup final.

He also copped it from playing partner Belinda Bencic.

Federer made history on Saturday night as the first player to win the event three times, teaming with Bencic to beat Germany in a thrilling mixed doubles finale.

Bencic then attempted to thank Federer in her victory speech, but ended up delivering a hilarious backhanded compliment.

“Thank you to Roger for playing with me…it’s amazing to learn from you,” she said.

“Playing mixed with you is amazing, but sometimes it’s tough because you talk a lot.”

The funny statement sparked laughter from Federer and the crowd, with Bencic bursting out as well at the reaction.

“It’s very positive but he thinks everybody is such a genius and can get everything that he says.”

Alexander Zverev also left the tennis world in stitches with a hilarious plea for mercy in his runner-up speech.

Zverev stole the show with a cheeky speech in which he casually asked why Federer couldn’t just let someone else win for a change.

“Well first of all congratulations to you guys. Again,” Zverev started by saying.

“We’re all tired of you guys already but what can we do?

“Especially you [Roger]. You’re thirty-whatever. Why? Just why?

“Let us have one, just the Hopman Cup, just once.”

Federer gave Switzerland a 1-0 lead in the tie with a 6-4 6-2 win over Zverev, before Angelique Kerber levelled the tie with a 6-4 7-6 (8-6) win over Bencic.

Switzerland then came up trumps 4-0 1-4 4-3 (5-4) in a deciding mixed doubles clash that came down to the final point.

Under the short sets format, the match is decided by a winner-takes-all point if scores are locked at 4-4 in the third-set tiebreak.
