NBL advert branded racist

A television advertisement promoting the new-look National Basketball League on OneHD has been slammed as racist.

NBL greats Cal Bruton and Leroy Loggins are angry the commercial portrays a black American player as a womaniser.

NBL stars show-off their skills during the ad within a domestic setting. The action culminates with new Sydney Kings recruit Taj McCullough landing between a couple in bed.

McCullough then makes a move toward the woman as the shot cuts away.

Bruton, a former Boomers player, told Brisbane's Courier Mail that the vision was 'below the belt'.a

"The only black American seen in the clip is hopping into bed with a white couple and what does that have to do with basketball?

Bruton says he was shocked when he first saw the clip and felt he wasn't the only naturalised Australian to feel that way.

Former Brisbane Bullet Leroy Loggins told The Mail the bedroom image was a "sad" attempt at humour.

"Why not show him with a group of kids teaching them how to shoot the ball," Loggins said.

Earlier this year a KFC advertisement that shows an Australian cricket supporter giving fried chicken to West Indies fans caused an outrage in the US.

The ad is currently still on-air.
