Miami Heat star guard Goran Dragic has hit back at Australian MP Tim Watts for claiming he was not worthy of taking an NBA All-Star spot ahead of Ben Simmons.

US media on Tuesday showed a Dragic video of Watts' colourful speech in parliament where he declared "no one with two brain cells to rub together would want Goran Dragic on their team over Ben".

The All-Star game will be played in Los Angeles on Monday AEDT.

"He said that in parliament?" Dragic asked in an incredulous tone, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported.

"First of all, he should think about his people and do his job in parliament, not get involved in sports.

"I don't know what to say on that.

"This is not something that is decided by him."

Dragic has history with Australia after stunningly accusing the Boomers of tanking a match at the 2014 World Cup to avoid a more difficult knockout path.

"Maybe they still remember that," Dragic said.

He is a 31-year-old, nine-year NBA veteran from Slovenia on a five-year $US85 million contract with the Heat, averaging 17.2 points, four rebounds and 4.8 assists this season.

Simmons, repeatedly overlooked for an All-Star spot as players dropped out because of injury, is averaging an incredible 16.4 points, 7.7 rebounds and 7.3 assists per game in his rookie season.

Rookies rarely receive invites to the game.

"I don't really know what an All-Star is anymore," Simmons told reporters.
