Players in tears after horrific NBA injury
WARNING: The following article contains graphic images that some readers may find distressing.
Phoenix Suns guard Isaiah Canaan has suffered a horrifying broken leg, leaving teammates and opponents in tears.
Canaan was stretchered off the court with seconds remaining in the first quarter of the Wednesday night game against the Dallas Mavericks after sustaining a gruesome leg injury on a drive to the basket.
Canaan burst into the paint and went up toward the net before coming down hard on his left leg, which buckled upon impact to the court.
The injury was similar in nature to the one Boston Celtics star Gordon Hayward sustained on opening night.
Hayward's injury resulted in season-ending surgery to repair a dislocated ankle and broken tibia.
Timeout was called on the court, and Canaan was carted off, with many players in tears watching on.
Entering play Wednesday, Canaan was averaging 8.9 points, 3.9 assists and 2.4 rebounds in 18 games for the Suns.
Isaiah Canaan just suffered what looked to be an absolutely terrifying leg injury in the closing seconds of the first quarter of Suns-Mavs. Gordon Hayward-style.
