Eight players ejected after wild women’s basket-brawl

A women's college basketball game descended into chaos after a wild brawl erupted in the second half of the match.

Eight players were ejected during the spiteful clash between the UNLV Lady Rebels and Utah State Aggies when tempers boiled over in the third quarter.

A foul on one of the players sparked the spiteful incident, with UNLV centre Katie Powell and Utah State forward Antoina Robinson shoving each other before punches were thrown in several directions.

The benches were cleared as players from both sides rushed to get involved in the fracas.

Powell told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that Robinson "was playing a little dirty throughout the game."

"Words were exchanged. I just told her to chill out," Powell said.

"And then we came to the other side of the floor. Brooke got fouled. I was walking to go help her up. She bumped me and then pushed me and then I just kind of swung at her."

The Lady Rebels outscored the Aggies 27-24 in the second half to force overtime, before seeing out a 55-53 win.
