Former NBA dunk champ blows breakaway jam

Basketball players live to dunk.

They may not dunk every game, and sometimes they could probably just complete an easy layup, but to dunk is to excite the crowd with pure power.

Terrence Ross wanted to do just that as the Toronto Raptors moved towards a blowout victory over the Milwaukee Bucks today.

Ross, who won the dunk contest at the 2013 All-Star Weekend when he was in his rookie season, attempted a windmill jam that would have drawn loud cheers from the crowd.

Instead, Ross's legs didn't give him enough power to slam the ball home and all he caught was the ring.

Toronto rebounded the ball and the possession ended with a made three-pointer by Kyle Lowry, though the arena noise after that shot was far less than if Ross had landed his dunk.

Ross will have two days to lick his wounds before he can attempt another high-flying dunk during a game.

He might even need to take part in this season's dunk contest just to rid himself of today's embarrassment.
