NBA fan nails $20K half-court shot

This Oklahoma City Thunder fan knocked down a half-court shot worth US$20,000 (AU$27,500) during the team's game against the Utah Jazz.

The crowd — and everyone on the hype squad — absolutely erupted when the ball found the net.

The incredible effort certainly outshone this horrendous display from the NBL recently:

Shane McKinzie said he and his girlfriend hadn't been in their seats more than five seconds before they were asked to compete.

"We thought about turning it down," said McKinzie, 23, "but we signed up and said, 'Ah, what the heck?'"

McKinzie and his girlfriend, Lindsay Beckman, won a free throw shootout to get the chance at the halfcourt shot. They then won a coin toss to break the free throw tie, and McKinzie took his shot at $20,000.

The Thunder went on to win the game thanks to this piece of wizardry from Russell Westbrook:

It was the first time in over two years that a spectator had succeeded in the half time promotion.

In all, it was only the ninth time the contest produced a $20,000 winner.
