Houston Astros pitcher Ken Giles has taken self-inflicted punishment to the next level, punching himself in the face.
Giles was fuming after allowing the game-winning home run against the New York Yankees on Tuesday.
With the score locked at 0-0 in the 9th inning, Giles gave up a three-run homer to Yankees slugger Gary Sanchez – a blow that proved to be decisive as New York won 4-0.
Giles was immediately removed from the game by his manager, seething as he walked off the field.
He angrily thumped his glove into his arm before socking himself in the face as he was walking into the dug-out.
“Not only did the Yankees hit Ken Giles hard, Ken Giles hit Ken Giles hard,” a bewildered commentator said.
“He just punched himself in the face…wow!”
