Barack Obama and LeBron James will talk about racial justice on 'The Shop' just before 2020 election
Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James has talked to a number of big-name celebrities on his HBO show “The Shop,” but he may have saved his biggest guest for the most important time in the United States. With the 2020 presidential election fast approaching, former President Barack Obama will talk to James about racial justice on “The Shop.”
Both James and Obama teased the appearance Tuesday.
It was such an honor. My President giving us the perspective and motivation we need right now. GO VOTE!!! @morethanavote #TheShop💈 #BlackLivesMatter https://t.co/MyoEAiX4gj
— LeBron James (@KingJames) October 27, 2020
While the video doesn’t reveal much about the conversation, Obama’s tweet reference topics like “the NBA bubble, the racial justice movement, and what’s at stake over these next seven days,” aka the Nov. 3 presidential election. The Obama episode of “The Shop” will air Friday at 9 p.m. ET.
LeBron James continues to promote More Than a Vote campaign
In the lead-up to the 2020 presidential election, James formed More Than A Vote, a campaign aimed at making sure people are educated about how, when and where they can vote. The organization’s focus is primarily aimed at Black voter suppression. It is dedicated to “combating systemic, racist voter suppression by educating, energizing, and protecting our community in 2020.”
James has gotten a number of Black athletes — including Brittney Griner, Alvin Kamara, Patrick Mahomes — to get involved with More Than A Vote. Obama included a link to the organization’s website in his tweet teasing his appearance on “The Shop.”
