Novak Djokovic will be on the same side of the Australian Open draw as Roger Federer as he looks to secure a record eighth title in Melbourne.

The Serbian has been handed a difficult opening tie against Germany's Jan-Lennard Struff, with Federer, 38, up against American Steve Johnson.

Seven-time winner Federer, seeded third for this year's tournament, can face Djokovic in the third round should both players win their early encounters.

World number one Rafael Nadal, who reached the final last year, will face Hugo Dellien in the first round with a potential clash against home favourite Nick Kyrgios in the fourth round.

British number one Dan Evans has been rewarded for his first Grand Slam seeding with a tie against Mackenzie McDonald.

Kyle Edmund is handed a tough test against the highly-rated Serbian Dusan Lajovic, while Cameron Norrie will contest Pierre-Hugues Herbert in his first round tie.

In the women's draw, 15-year-old Coco Gauff will once again face Venus Williams - 24 years her senior - after stunning the American in round one at Wimbledon last year.

Top seed Ashleigh Barty takes on Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko, while defending champion Naomi Osaka begins her title defence against Marie Bouzkova.

Serena Williams continues her quest to equal Margaret Court's record of 24 Grand Slams against Russia's Anastasia Potapova.

British number one Johanna Konta, seeded 12th for the tournament, is drawn against Ons Jabeur from Tunisia while Katie Boulter must get past fifth seed Elina Svitolina in order to progress to the next round.
