Australia's bid to end their badminton medal drought has endured a tough start, losing to Sri Lanka on day one of the Commonwealth Games.
Sri Lanka won 3-2, with two-time Olympian Wendy Chen Hsuan-Yu the only Australian to win her two matches.
After claiming her singles match, Chen combined with Gronya Somerville to take out the women's doubles.
But Sri Lanka won the men's singles, men's doubles and mixed doubles.
Australia have not won a Commonwealth Games medal in badminton since 2010.
