Team news
Both teams’ preparations have been hampered after coronavirus restrictions have limited match practice and training schedules.
Aussie cricketers returning from the IPL are allowed out of their rooms for about three hours a day to train before the ODI series-opener in Sydney on Friday, the day after their 14-day quarantine finishes.
Former captain Ricky Ponting is helping coach Australia's IPL stars during their current quarantine stint in Sydney, with the entire limited-overs squad unable to train together before the first one-dayer at the SCG.
Virat Kohli and India's huge touring party left Dubai to Sydney on a charter flight, sharing it with Australia's Indian Premier League stars.
The superstar batsman will play in the six limited-overs matches in Australia before he will return home to be with his wife Anushka Sharma for the birth in early January.
India coach Ravi Shastri also has fears over opener Rohit Sharma and quick Ishant Sharma could miss this summer's Test series if they don't land in Australia this week.
Both will miss the ODI series, but are aiming to make an impact in the Test series.
