Aussie tennis golden couple announce their engagement

Daria Gavrilova and Luke Saville have announced their engagement.

The Aussie tennis stars got engaged on December 6 in Melbourne, with Gavrilova sharing the news on social media on Monday.

“Can’t stop calling him fiancé and he hates it,” Gavrilova wrote on Instagram.

The 24 years olds first met when they were 15 and playing on the junior circuit, when Gavrilova was still representing her native Russia.

They have been a couple since 2011.

Gavrilova credits her relationship with Saville as one of the reasons she switched allegiances from Russia to Australia.

“There was the connection with me, so probably none of this would have happened if we weren’t together,” Saville said in 2016.

“She wouldn’t have had a reason or the contacts to come here.”

Unfortunately the good news ends there for Saville, with the World No.476 recently losing in the final of the Australian Open Wildcard Playoffs.

Saville’s world ranking has tumbled from a career-high 152 in 2015 and he has failed to feature in a grand-slam main draw since 2012.

A former junior world No.1, the winner of the Wimbledon and Australian Open junior titles has struggled with the transition to the senior field.

The South Australian said he felt he’d found some good form last week.
