Aussie stars snubbed in $21 million IPL frenzy

A host of Australian stars have missed out on a huge payday at the IPL auction.

Moises Henriques and Ashton Turner were the only Australian players bought at Tuesday’s $21 million signing frenzy.

Henriques was bought by Kings XI Punjab for a price of 10 million Indian rupees ($A198,000), while Turner was sold to Rajasthan Royals for $96,900.

Henriques will join India bowler Varun Chakravarthy at the Kings XI, who along with new Rajasthan Royals paceman Jaydev Unadkat, was the joint most expensive mover of the auction’s first round in Jaipur.

Both bowlers fetched a price of 84 million rupees, or $1,627,920.

English all-rounder Sam Curran was also picked up by the Punjab franchise for 72 million rupees, while the Delhi Capitals bought South African opener Colin Ingram for 64 million rupees and Englishman Jonny Bairstow will join for Sunrisers Hyderabad for 22 million rupees.

A total of 60 players were sold for just over $21 million, but Shaun March, D’Arcy Short, Alex Carey, Adam Zampa, Usman Khawaja, James Pattinson, Ben McDermott, James Faulkner, Kane Richardson, Dan Christian and Ben Laughlin were all snubbed.

That group are likely selections for Australia’s squad for this year’s World Cup in England and Wales.

Banned Australian stars Steve Smith and David Warner are not be in the auction because their franchises have retained them.

But their availability for the IPL remains unclear, given Cricket Australia have made it clear that national and domestic commitments will take priority.

The 15-man World Cup squad will have to attend a May training camp that clashes with the IPL.

The Indian league also cuts across an Australia-Pakistan one-day series and the Shield final.

T20 stars such as Glenn Maxwell have opted out of returning to the IPL.
