Australia's Remy Gardner is poised for an early taste of life on a MotoGP bike with a test ride for Red Bull KTM in Italy next week.

Gardner and Spanish teammate Raul Fernandez will get a half-day of testing with the Austrian marque's main bike at Misano.

The news comes after the pair continued their dominance of the Moto2 championship in Spain on Sunday.

Gardner finished second to Fernandez in the Aragon Moto2 grand prix but holds 39-point advantage over his teammate in the championship standings with five races remaining.

After the race, the son of 1987 500cc world champion Wayne Gardner, confirmed he and Fernandez will be undertaking the test ride.

"I don't know if KTM had made the announcement or not, but it's done now so I might be getting my balls chopped off later," Gardner said.

'We do half a day, two sets of tyres, and yeah, it's like a little treat for us.

"It should be fun."

Gardner and Fernandez are both expected to be elevated to MotoGP in 2022 with KTM's satellite team, Tech3.

The test at Misano won't be their only chance to ride the MotoGP bikes with a further opportunity at the post-season test in Jerez also expected to be granted to both riders.

The next stop in the Moto2 calendar is the San Marino grand prix at Misano on September 19.
